[Поскольку пищевыми расстройствами страдают преимущественно женщины, то здесь речь
пойдет только о пациентках. Состояние дел в современной науке таково, что относительно аналогичных
отклонений у мужчин пока нет достаточной информации.]
Расстройства приема пищи встречаются преимущественно в индустриально развитых странах,
причем и там нервная анорексия и нервная булимия наблюдаются в основном в высших с социально-
экономической точки зрения слоях (Fairburn & Cooper, 1984; Mitchell, Hatsukami, Eckert & Pyle, 1985).
Кроме того, этим заболеваниям подвержены почти исключительно женщины. Для нервной анорексии
доля мужчин составляет менее 10%, а для нервной булимии — максимум 15% от общего числа
